Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
An important representative said the attack made him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
