19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a title is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, comprising in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet saved 4 early break points in a close third set before Medvedev broke to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
